Culture
Among abundant vegetation and mineral waters, where the rain and
warm days live together, the indigenous groups live. In the north, northwest,
and south part of Tehuacan, we fin the “Popolocas” people. Whereas, in the
north mountain range we find the “Nahuatls”, “Totonacas”, “Huastecos” and
“Otomies”. The customs of all these groups mixwith the colonial culture, as
well as the modern culture. However, these groups still maintain their
Prehispanic roots.
An example of this is the manual ability of the indigineous. Using their imagination, the adorn their handcrafts and outfits with colours, shapes, traditions, textures, styles and varied meanings where their roots cannot be denied.

In Puebla, as in other states, dancers are an important part of the culture. Through dance, the indigenous groups show how they visualize the world around them as well as specific moments in history. They are a link between the past and the present. These dancers are seen in town festivals or in certain areas of the city called “barrios”. The dancers show their luxurious costumes, colours, musical instruments, fireworks and people dancing through the streets and neighbourhoods are characteristic of festive dances.
For many centuries, the “Poblanos” have developed their own handcrafts. These handcrafts represent and unexplainable type of art. The hands that create them seem magical.
