Charming Towns

Touring Manzanillo’s Surrounding Areas – Begin the tour in downtown Manzanillo, where you can go to the market and eat some tasty chilaquiles for breakfast. After that, take a walk to the Jardin Obregon, which lies in front of the boardwalk. Later, visit the magnificent sailfish monument, which is the work of Sebastian, a famed sculptor from Chihuahua. To head out of the city, take Highway 200 to Tecoman, a picturesque town that lies about 40 km (25 mi) from Manzanillo. It is also one of the nation’s top lime producing regions. Near there, you’ll find Boca de Pascuales Beach, which has big waves that are ideal for surfing, as well as delicious fish and seafood dishes, such as its famous Colima-style ceviche and a traditional fish and seafood soup. About 48 km (30 mi) north of Tecoman, along Highway 14, you can visit Colima, the state capital. There you can check out the Palacio de Gobierno and the ruins of the San Francisco de Colima Convent, the second oldest convent in western Mexico. Both are examples of the region’s beautiful neoclassical architecture.

A few kilometers northwest of Colima, you’ll arrive at the magical town of Comala, known for its narrow streets and picturesque houses with red tile roofs. As you head in the direction of the Volcan de Fuego (Volcano of Fire), you’ll see orchards and lush vegetation. During your stay, be sure to visit Los Portales, located in front of the Plaza de Armas, which is one of several places mentioned in Juan Rulfo’s novel “Pedro Paramo”.
