Local Transportation
Transferring in Mazatlan is very easy thanks to the offered options in transportation: Minibuses, taxis and the famous ‘pulmonias’ (look like a golf cart).
Pulmonias
‘Pulmonias’ are basically open air cabs. Hundreds of these roam the streets. They can be a bit more expensive than the Eco-taxis, but they're a lot more common and give an entertaining ride. A ‘pulmonia’ can up to 4 passengers, though drivers will sometimes squeeze in one extra.
Eco Taxis
Eco-taxis look like normal cabs and are better suited for getting to the airport, or driving at night. For some unknown reason, these are usually cheaper than ‘pulmonias’. Eco-taxis are the only kind of cab that you can have dispatched. These cars can also carry up to 4 passengers.
Buses
New buses are green in colour and they all run through the Golden Zone's Ave, which is the main coastal road - Camaron Sabalo - to cater tourism. The driver will not charge you anymore than $7.50 regardless of your destination and time of day. General hours of bus operation are between 5:00 am and 10:30 pm. Many buses will print big destinations on their front windows, such as the centre (el centro), the grand plaza, and supermarkets - Walmart, Gigante, Ley, and Soriana.
TIP: if you can’t find a stop button (which many buses are lacking), simply yell ÝbajanÝ (ba-han). Don’t be shy, the locals do this all the time, and it seems the bus drivers even prefer it.
