Panama or jipijapa palm hats
Panama hats made from straw of the jipijapa palm are produced in the village of Becal and sold in Campeche. The palm leaves are cut into thin strips, and the thinner the strip, the more time it takes to produce, the more expensive the hat. The whole process takes place in a damp cave where the moisture prevents the straw from becoming too dry to work with.
